The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today announced its continued support to Landmine and Un-Exploded Ordnance (UXO) clearance in Yemen. The successful management of Project Masam, by Dynasafe Middle East Project Management (DSMEPM), has paved the way for this ground-breaking Project to be fully funded into its sixth year by the Saudi government with UK company SafeLane Global Ltd providing equipment, insurance, international trainers and mentors.
A total of thirty-two Yemeni clearance teams, over 550 Yemeni nationals, including administration support staff supported by experienced technical mentors, will continue to conduct Survey and Clearance operations to open roads, provide access to key infrastructure, including schools, and assist the Yemeni people to return to their homes and livelihoods disrupted by the conflict.
Since its inception in 2018, Project Masam has cleared over 47 million square metres of contaminated land and removed 145,818 landmines, 250,686 UXO and 7,829 Improvised Explosive devices (IED). Combined, this staggering 400,000 plus items of Landmines and Explosive Ordnance has significantly contributed to the safety, well being and livelihood of the Yemeni civilian population.
Life may only return to normal when the lethal Explosive Remnants of War have all been located and removed from affecting civilian life. This is the objective of Project Masam and all those involved are privileged to be part of such a generous humanitarian initiative created by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
