The Falkland Islands, a British overseas territory in the south-west Atlantic Ocean, was subjected to a bitter war with Argentina in 1982. One of the most damaging legacies of the war for the people of the Falklands was the littering of their homeland with landmines.
Since inception, SafeLane Global has been working alongside Her Majesty’s Government to systematically clear the Falkland Islands of landmines however.
Made up of two main islands, East Falkland and West Falkland, as well as hundreds of smaller islands and islets, today the islands are on the cusp of being released from the threat of these explosive remnants of war.
In 2020, exclusively as a result of the work of SafeLane Global’s teams in the Falklands, the islands became landmine free, and new life has been breathed into unsafe environments, positively transforming Falkland Island communities and the lives of those living and working within them.
