Disarmament support operations Central African Republic
SafeLane Global supported disarmament operations in the Central African Republic.
Disarmament support in CAR
SafeLane was contracted by a global humanitarian client to establish headquarters (HQ) in Bangui and deploy 3 x multi-task teams (MTTs) to support disarmament operations in the Central African Republic (CAR).
Operations were carried out throughout CAR - however they mainly focused on the following areas: Bangui, Bambari, Kaga-Bandoro, Bria, Paoua, Birao, Koui and Bossangoa.
The objective of the contract was to provide three MTTs to support disarmament operations in the context of the national disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR) programme. This included the provision of technical expertise and assistance on various forms of weapon and ammunition management (WAM).
SafeLane's teams conducted various tasks including collection, classification, segregation, registration, verification, storage, and destruction of weapons, burning of small arms and ammunition (SAAs), cutting of weapons, collecting weapons and explosive ordnance disposal.
In addition, it was critical for SafeLane Global's personnel to effectively liaise with national partners and training beneficiaries. Therefore, all deployed personnel were fluent French-speakers to ensure the effective delivery of the project.
Hundreds of thousands of items were successfully disarmed and disposed of.
