Supporting humanitarian initiatives in Somalia

Last week, SafeLane’s Mogadishu-based explosive detection dog teams volunteered to support the Uganda Peoples' Defence Force (UPDF) as they celebrated Tarehe Sita, the national liberation day for Uganda.

Tarehe Sita; which literally translates to the sixth day from Swahili, is an annual commemoration for the people of Uganda. 

The UPDF in Somalia chose to celebrate this day by giving back to the local community in Mogadishu.

They worked at the marina market clearing rubbish and disposing of waste.  They delivered a sanitisation programme, taught healthy living classes and provided free medication and basic health care services to local people.

In support of this philanthropic project for the people of Mogadishu, SafeLane’s explosive detection dog teams provided area and building searches.  They did this to ensure all locations were safe and free from any explosive threat to the UPDF and the local Somali population.

Trust Sibandah and his dog Ash, and newly accredited Prince Dube and his dog Hektor conducted the searches in an efficient and professional manner.  They ensured the areas were safe and allowed the UPDF to proceed with their humanitarian activities.

The UPDF and local market community were extremely appreciative of SafeLane’s support, and positive feedback from UNMAS has also been received.
